  25. Yes - we listened to your numerous requests and are now expanding the
  26. service areas for PC Pursuit to include the following cities --

  34. These cities should be added to the PC Pursuit service no later than
  35. 12/31/86.  This will bring the total PC Pursuit service areas to 25 --
  36. which include the top PC markets from across the U.S., and provides you
  37. long-distance access to 42% of the entire installed PC market in the U.S.
  38. And there are already plans underway for many additional cities to be
  39. added throughout 1987.

  41. In addition, another capacity expansion is underway to handle increased
  42. traffic in the existing 14 PC Pursuit cities.

  87.                HOW TO LOG ON TO TELENET AT 8-N-1
  88.              -------------------------------------
  89.  
  90. You can now log on to Telenet at 8 data, 1 stop bit, and no parity.
  91. Simply do the following --
  92.  
  93.    1) Set your PC comm parameters to 8-N-1, then dial your local
  94.       Telenet number.
  95.  
  96.    2) Once connected, enter  (cr) D (cr)
  97.  
  98.    3) At the TERMINAL =  prompt, enter  D1 (cr)
  99.  
  100.  
  101. (Previously you probably called in at 7-E-1 and entered  (cr) (cr)
  102. to log on).  This ability to log on at 8-N-1 makes it easier for
  103. file transfers since you do not have to switch parameters settings
  104. once you are connected to the BBS you called.  Also, if you have
  105. a problem with no echo or double-echo of characters, you probably
  106. need to change the duplex.  You can change the duplex either with your
  107. PC software, or at the  @  sign, you can type FULL or HALF  (cr),
  108. whichever is needed.

  114.             HOW TO ACCESS THE EXEC-PC BBS IN MILWAUKEE
  115.          ------------------------------------------------

  118. In September, we set up a unique access method to a BBS in Milwaukee
  119. called EXEC-PC, a multi-port system that has many many megs of files.
  120. The EXEC-PC BBS has been modified to connect directly to Telenet at
  121. pre-specified ports and then await connections from PC Pursuit callers.
  122. This new enhancement to PC Pursuit is still in the test stages, but
  123. you are welcome to give it a try!   Indeed, you may see the exciting
  124. potential this enhancement has, since it means that many other BBS's
  125. in ANY of Telenet's hundreds of cities could be connected up to
  126. Telenet and then await connections from PC Pursuit users.  If you have
  127. a BBS or know of a BBS that would be interested in possibly setting
  128. up a connection arrangement similar to this (ie. EXEC-PC), call
  129. the PC Pursuit On-line User Guide and leave a message to the sysop,
  130. with your name and day and evening phone numbers.

  133. The steps to access EXEC-PC:
  134.  
  135.   1) Access through PC Pursuit is available weekdays from 5pm to 8am CST
  136.      and from 5pm Friday to 8am Monday morning CST.
  137.  
  138.   2) Call your local Telenet number, get to the  @  sign.
  139.  
  140.   3) Enter  41419.33,YOUR ID  (cr)         (or 41419.35, .36, or .38)
  141.  
  142.   4) At Password =     Enter password (cr)
  143.  
  144.   5) When you see 41419.3x CONNECTED,  press (cr) several times and
  145.      you will see that you are logged on to Exec-PC.
  146.  
  147.  
  148.   NOTE:  If you want to do Xmodem or other 8-bit file transfers, then
  149.   be sure to log on to Telenet (step 2) at 8-N-1.  See explanation above.
  150.   Then you will want to give some specific port parameter settings to
  151.   the Telenet port you are connected to.  When you see the 41419.3x
  152.   CONNECTED message, then --
  153.  
  154.        a) Enter  @ (cr)       to escape to Telenet command mode
  155.  
  156.        b) Enter SET? 1:0,2:0,4:2,7:8,10:0,0:0,57:1,63:0 (cr)
  157.  
  158.        c) You will see the settings redisplayed...
  159.  
  160.        d) Then at the  @,  Enter  CONT (cr), with several  (cr)'s
  161.           to continue the log-on to EXEC-PC.

  165.                     QUESTIONS  AND  ANSWERS

  168. 1) THE NET-EXCHANGE BBS IS A GOOD BBS TO GET/SEND INFO WITH OTHER
  169.    PC PURSUIT USERS -- BUT IT IS OFTEN BUSY.  WHAT CAN I DO?
  170.  
  171.    ANS:  We are working on a multi-port system to allow more users
  172.          to access the Net-Exchange.  Hope to have it operational
  173.          in January, maybe sooner.

  176. 2) CAN I USE VOICE ACROSS PC PURSUIT?
  177.  
  178.    ANS:  Telenet is for DATA communications only.  Telenet is a part
  179.          of US SPRINT, and we recommend SPRINT service for your voice
  180.          long-distance needs (call 800-521-4949).  You will nonetheless
  181.          see more integration of voice and data service coming from
  182.          US SPRINT as a result of our new joint-venture.

  185. 3) I HAVE FRIENDS IN RICHMOND, VA. AND PROVIDENCE, R.I.   WILL PC PURSUIT
  186.    EVER PROVIDE OUTDIAL SERVICE TO THOSE AREAS?
  187.  
  188.    ANS:  Yes.  Telenet Engineering is developing a method to enable
  189.          all U.S. Telenet cities to be bi-directional in dialing.
  190.          That is, calls could be made FROM any Telenet city TO any
  191.          Telenet city.  That is to be THE ultimate PC Pursuit service -
  192.          with access to and from thousands of cities!!  Hope to have
  193.          this available by year end 1987.  In the mean while, we will
  194.          grow PC Pursuit from 14 to 25 to 50 cities, etc.

  197. 4) WHEN IS 2400 BPS GOING TO BE AVAILABLE WITH PC PURSUIT?

  199.    ANS:  Originally, it was to be available this fall '86.  Development
  200.          delays now have deployment scheduled for 1st Qtr 1987.  We
  201.          will give you an update in the next newsletter.

  227. This second edition of the newsletter
  228. comes out later than we had hoped
  229. due to the extensive trips we have
  230. taken to spread the word about PC
  231. Pursuit.  Our staff is now
  232. increasing and we have made it
  233. our goal to keep a newsletter
  234. coming to you at least every 2 months.

  237. During the last four weeks, we
  238. travelled to Atlanta, Boca Raton,
  239. San Francisco, Seattle, Boston and
  240. Nashua, N.H.  where we made
  241. presentations about PC Pursuit to
  242. such User Groups as the Boca
  243. Raton IBM Group, the Atlanta
  244. Apple Group, and the Boston
  245. Computer Society IBM Group.
  246. Telenet also participated in the
  247. Northeast Computer Faire
  248. recently in Boston.  (It is
  249. interesting that about 75% of
  250. people in User Groups are modem
  251. users -- a very receptive
  252. audience indeed for the benefits
  253. of PC Pursuit).  Additionally,
  254. PC Pursuit continues to get
  255. excellent press coverage - with
  256. recent articles on the front page
  257. of USA TODAY, INFOWORLD, MACUSER,
  258. MACAZINE, WALL STREET COMPUTER
  259. REVIEW, BOSTON HERALD, and a live
  260. radio interview with KING radio
  261. in Seattle on their Northwest
  262. Computer Review show.

  266. attend several other User Group
  267. meetings and trade shows (ie. the
  268. West Coast Computer Faire in S.F.
